Friday 8/22/08 – 225.0 – 16.0 lbs To Goal

Stomach is still really bothering me this morning. Not sure why. However, I have GREAT news… down 6 lbs from last week! I can’t even tell you how nervous I was to get on the scale this morning. Was a complete relief to see that 2-2-5. It’s GREAT to see some positive progress.

BREAKFAST:
  • none

LUNCH:
  • seafood salad from Subway (lettuce, spinach, black olives, yellow peppers, “seafood”, pickles, mayo)
  • fountain Diet Pepsi

Stomach is still REALLY upset. I’m hoping that this is just the normal “Atkins Tummy Ache” that I’ve experienced in the past but I don’t remember it lasting nearly this long. Not only that but I’ve been eating relatively carb-free for a while now… normally it starts at the beginning.


DINNER:
  • thin white pizza (tomato, cheese & basil) – one of Amanda’s best dishes!
  • Miller Lite x2
  • chips and home made salsa

SNACKS:
  • coffee x2
  • handful of peanuts
  • M&M’s
  • double cheeseburgers (no bun) x 2
  • 5 piece nugget x2

Probably shouldn’t have had the M&Ms but I decided to celebrate.


WORKOUT:
  • took the boys for a walk on the golf course.

Thursday – 8/21/08 – Is Summer Over Already?!?!?

Was tired as hell this AM. Had to be at work for a 7:30 AM meeting which wouldn’t have been so bad except for the fact that the Indians have a 12:05 PM game today and the parking was a bitch… irritating. We had planned on going to the Lake Erie Captains game tonight but I don’t think we’re going to do that, so I may just have a chance to get a bike ride or a workout in tonight. At the very least I imagine we’ll go for a walk with the boys before bed.

BREAKFAST:
  • none

LUNCH:
  • steak salad from Charlies (lettuce, yellow peppers, onion, steak, tomato, mushrooms, cucumber, black olives, carrots, mayo)
  • fountain diet Pepsi

Note to self: do not get onions on this salad anymore — WAY too many.


DINNER:
  • baked fish topped with almonds
  • rice with carrots, peas

Amanda made a great dinner last night.  She absolutely amazes me that she’s able to make dinner with the boys going crazy all day – Rock and roll.


SNACKS:
  • coffee x 1
  • almonds
  • diet Pepsi x2
  • handful of peanuts

WORKOUT:
  • took Grayson for a walk last night.

Wasn’t able to work out today but I also didn’t go to the Captain’s game which would have equaled beer and probably eating bad.  Had a few carbs with the rice at dinner but overall a great day with minimal snacking.
Stomach REALLY bothered me in the evening/night.  Not sure if it was the fish or I’ve got a bit of a bug.  Looking forward to weigh-in day tomorrow.

Wednesday – 8/20/08 – Hump Day

Felt pretty good this morning. Went to the gym before work with no thought of stopping for breakfast on the way in. I’ve got a 7:30 meeting tomorrow so I won’t be working out before that and we’re going to the Captain’s (minor league baseball) game tomorrow evening so there won’t be any physical activity tomorrow… needed to get it in today.

BREAKFAST:
  • none

LUNCH:
  • chicken wings (12) from the Winking Lizard
  • Caesar salad
  • diet Coke

Today was “lunch at the Office” – we watched the very first episode… hilarious.


DINNER:
  • salad (lettuce, yellow peppers, tomato, olive, onion)
  • mushrooms stuffed with cheese & clams
  • meatballs x 3
  • Miller Lite
  • water

We went to dinner with the boys at the Olive Garden.


SNACKS:
  • coffee x2
  • Miller Lite x3

WORKOUT:
  • 2.5 miles on the elliptical (408 calories burned). Did the “hill” course.

Tuesday 8/19/08 – Morning Came Early After A Late Night

So I went to see The Dark Knight last night — incredible! I wanted to be home to put the boys to bed before I went to the flick so I went to a 9:50 PM show. Normally that wouldn’t have been an issue, but The Dark Knight is about two and a half hours long. Uggh. In any case, I didn’t get to the gym this AM as I’d hoped but I did skip McDonald’s once again. I’ll do a movie review shortly but the flick was REALLY well done. Very much deserving of all the hype that it’s received.

BREAKFAST:
  • none

LUNCH:
  • steak salad (lettuce, black olives, steak, tomato, carrot, fat free ranch dressing)
  • fountain diet Pepsi

DINNER:
  • chicken wings
  • salad
  • Bud Lite x 1

SNACKS:
  • coffee x2
  • birthday cake
  • scoop of ice cream

WORKOUT:
  • nothing

Tonight was my father-in-law’s birthday hence the birthday cake and ice cream.  Otherwise was a great day from the eating standpoint.
Did have some pretty bad heartburn on the way home from work (after the Starbucks).

Monday 8/18/08 – Another Week Begins

Being a HUGE swimming fan the “best” part of the Olympic games are officially over for me. I tell you, that Phelps kid can swim huh? You think he practices much? Not sure if anyone saw it but there was a story on the Olympic coverage about how much he eats… something on the order of 15,000 calories a DAY!!! And he can’t break 200 lbs. Amazing. Gave a big ol “FU” to McDonald’s on the way to work today. Sitting here writing and the stomach is grumbling a bit but I’m not going to snack. Might grab a cup of coffee though… yummy.

BREAKFAST:
  • none

Was planning on eating something this AM but was pretty late getting out of the house. Not a big loss as long as I don’t snack (which I won’t).


LUNCH:
  • seafood salad from Subway (lettuce, spinach, yellow peppers, black olives, pickles, light mayo)
  • fountain diet Pepsi

Even with $5 foot long subs at Subway I really don’t think you can get more for your money than the Subway salads.


DINNER:
  • buffalo chicken breasts
  • 2 slices of cheese
  • water


SNACKS:
  • almonds
  • grande house blend from Starbucks
  • 2 double cheeseburgers (no bun)
  • 1 crispy chicken (no bun)
  • buttered popcorn
  • diet Pepsi

WORKOUT:
  • cut grass

Pretty good day eating wise. Love them salads at Subway. With the exception of the popcorn it was a relatively carb-free day. I simply cannot go to the movies without eating popcorn (and on Monday’s it’s free to boot!)
Had some BRUTAL heartburn on the way to the movie last night.  Not sure exactly what it was… might have been the burgers on the way home but I kind of doubt it.  The only thing that I’ve not had before was the chicken.  Will have to keep an eye on that the next time I eat it.

DINNER:
  • turkey & spinach omelet
  • water

SNACKS:
  • handful of peanuts
  • trail mix

WORKOUT:
  • 18 holes on the golf course
  • walk pushing the boys

Had a good day today. Didn’t have any “bad” snacks and was out of the course getting a workout. Tomorrow’s a new week… totally looking forward to a good week of eating and working out!

Saturday 8/16/08

BREAKFAST:
  • bowl of cereal with milk
  • two pancakes with syrup
  • water

LUNCH:
  • tuna salad on lettuce
  • water
  • fried rice
  • pickles

This was the “get rid of everything in the fridge” lunch.


DINNER:
  • Enchiladas Super Rancheros from El Campesino

Talk about a bad dinner choice. Had some super bad heartburn after dinner for the rest of the night. Figure that’s my penance for eating bad. Really need to get away from carbs (and was just a terrible dinner regardless).


SNACKS:

  • handful of peanuts
  • peach ice cream
  • Dairy Queen ice cream cake

WORKOUT:
  • walk around the golf course pushing the boys

Friday 8/15/08 – 231.0 lbs – 22.0 lbs To Goal

Welcome to weird logic Friday folks!!! If you’ve been following along you’ll see what a disaster this week has been as a start of a new diet/lifestyle. 3 days out of the week starting at the McDonald’s drive through is NOT the recipe for success. That being said, I’m super optimistic today. When I woke up and got on the scale this morning (which I won’t do now until next Friday morning thanks to a comment on yesterday’s post) I saw the bad news. I made a decision that today was going to be the last day of eating bad. I decided that I’d say one last goodbye to my McDonald’s breakfasts and start tomorrow in earnest. This is similar to my decision to quit dipping – it’s finally time. I can’t really tell you why it’s different but it is.

BREAKFAST:
  • sausage McMuffin with no egg x 4
  • diet Coke

LUNCH:
  • buffalo burger (mayo, tomato, cheese) from Harry Buffalo
  • fries
  • water
This looks pretty bad but it’s actually not too bad… Bison burgers are actually MUCH less fattening than regular beef burgers.

DINNER:
  • flat iron steak
  • a few redskin potatoes
  • a few french fries
  • 2 Miller Lite

Went to dinner with the family at the Glenwillow Grill.  Have to say that while the company was awesome the food was pretty terrible.  Don’t think we’ll be going back again (though we did get to see a train for G).


SNACKS:

  • Mountain Dew (12 oz)
  • handful of peanuts

WORKOUT:
  • nothing

Thursday 8/14/08 – 229.5 lbs – 20.5 lbs To Goal

  • sausage McMuffin with no egg x 4

Dumbass. Why is it that I simply cannot drive past McD’s in the morning? I’m starting to think that I actually SHOULD eat something in the morning before I leave for work… at least then maybe I wouldn’t be tempted by HUNGER to turn into the drive through.

LUNCH:

  • foot long oven-roasted turkey & cheddar (turkey, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, mayo, black olive, pickles & yellow peppers)
  • diet Coke (fountain)
  • bag of chips

Love me some Quiznos. Yum.

DINNER:

  • corn
  • coconut shrimp
  • couscous
  • water

SNACKS:

  • diet Pepsi (12 oz)
  • handful of peanuts
  • piece of ice cream cake

WORKOUT:

  • walk pushing the boys around the golf course

Wednesday 8/13/08 – 230.0 lbs – 21 lbs To Goal

Well no surprise but the scale was not kind this AM. So of course what do I do? I stop at McDonald’s on the way into work. It’s amazing how STUPID I am. As I’m sitting in the drive through I’m telling myself that I shouldn’t be there… but like an addict there I am.

BREAKFAST:

  • sausage McMuffin with no egg x 4
  • diet Coke

Dumbass.

LUNCH:

  • Big John from Jimmy John’s (no tomato)
    medium rare shaved roast beef, topped with yummy mayo, lettuce & tomato
  • chips
  • diet Pepsi

It was lunch at the office day today.

DINNER:

  • broiled fish with a vinegar glaze sauce
  • beans with olive oil & garlic
  • couscous

Gotta love my wife for having THIS meal on the plate when I get home… not sure how she does it with the boys running around all day!

SNACKS:

  • diet Pepsi (12 oz)
  • handful of peanuts
  • piece of pizza (corner of a Donato’s pizza)
  • strawberry sherbet (fat free)

WORKOUT:

  • not a workout perse but we did take the boys for a walk.

Aside from the damn McDonald’s in the morning not a bad day. Need to get some sort of regular workout program going. Once or twice a week to the gym just isn’t going to cut it.
